Critiques
I love the shading,it pushes a lot of emotion in the panels and adds athmosphere to the whole page.
I love the dramatic feeling when I read the page.
BUT!
Still there's some stuff to complain,yes...im evil like that >.>
On the 2nd panel where Redeye holds Zor,I think the light is too focused on the center of Zors face, where his eyes reflect much less of the light. The shinyness of the eyes should make the reflecting light harder.
Next, the tears on the 3rd panel. They look good, but I think they would've looked better if it wasn't made by sharp, separate lines. You did almost all page soft shaded and the sharpness looks a little odd.
And now the last panel, the only thing is Zors position.I think his head is bent backwards too much, and also the hips look like they're flipped as well.Maybe try fixing the curve on his right leg.
And maybe put the "Calico?!" text behind Zor
Other way,it's still awesome :3
Now I had to read the DA stuff about giving a critique to be certain I did it right and did not mark your stars in a biased fashion.
Vision: Does the artwork present or reflect a point of view, theme or idea?
Poor Zor, he's fighting against the thoughts of agony that he remembers quite vividly. Redeye's eyes are beaming on him and the background glows ominously the same shade of his eyes. I can completely feel him and for him.
Originality: Originality – Is the artwork fresh or new in its style, execution or approach? Is it something you haven’t seen before in its particular genre? Does it surprise you?
You're doing the hard as hell LINELESS approach which is god awfully tedious and also awesomely beautiful. That alone is way different than your usual line artwork. It's still smooth and yet has so much more depth. I haven't seen the rest of the comic colored but in knowing that this will be tagged with the rest, I know that what's in store is amazing from your BS concept art for Zor. I doubt anyone has something like this going on.
Technique: Technique – Was the artwork skillfully created? Does the artist exhibit advanced knowledge of the medium and/or bring special focus to the craft of the medium used.
You've always been awesome when it came to coloring, and your eyes have always been so pritty to look at in your art. But here you really show how you've improved from not only coloring, but also with body features. The angles are perfect and put you in place with the characters.
Impact: Impact – Does the artwork resonate with you or evoke strong emotions? Does it make you think? Does it blow your mind?
Hell to the yes. Such lovely streams of tears flowing from a usually strong guy. No one would really guess that he would have such a big heart at first glance. He's in the sport all for the sake of his friend. Now here comes Redeye twisting at his emotions. Calico's appearance is shocking to Zor and even the background red changes to a dull purple to shows how Zor feels around the other. It's softer... while still dark. We know what his choice will be even before the other pages, or so we hope by Calico's pleading words.
All in all I already said I'm so impressed and ARGH I hate you for being so awesome XDXDXD
Love you tons Ben! Can't wait to see the rest
